Position Summary
The Custom Welder Fabricator builds and custom fits parts to form complete products, following production drawings and layout specifications.
Principle Accountabilities
Studies engineering and production drawings to determine material requirements and task sequences.
Builds parts. Positions, aligns, fits and welds parts to form complete units, subunits or assemblies.
Fabricates metal parts and assemblies by cutting, burning, and welding various metals. Uses welding machines, oxyacetylene torches, plasma cutters, various hand and power tools, cranes, forklifts and other lifting equipment, when certified, in an appropriate manner.
Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications. Ensures work products meets specifications, including dimensional criteria, squareness standards and weld call outs through personal checking of product; obtains first part approval on each new task.
Shares ideas/input with design team to help increase fabrication efficiencies and overall quality of design. Provides solutions to engineering deficiencies, structural irregularities, modifications, steel/metal replacement and other repair situations.
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated experience in welding and fabrication in the manufacturing industry. Other desired qualifications include:
Preferred Experience: Between 2 and 5 years.
Ability to read and interpret production drawings.
Basic math skills for welders such as geometry, place value, estimation, measurement, addition, subtraction, division.
Demonstrated planning skills.
Must be able to read and understand weld symbols and tolerance callouts on production drawings, maintain part tolerances andverify parts and assemblies after fabrication.
Must have thorough knowledge of various metals and their characteristics/qualities including the correct welding processesrequired and the effects of welding on the material.
Knows how to set up a welding machine and monitor quality of work.
Previous weld and forklift certification a plus.
